Short Biography
He was born in Yatagan in 1955. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education at the Denizli High School in Denizli. He was graduated as a metallurgical engineer from Middle East Technical University (BS), Metallurgical Engineering Department. He had completed his masters degree in metallurgical engineering at the same university (MSc). He went to United States of America and enrolled in University of Texas at Austin and Rice University for his doctoral studies. He received his PhD degree from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Rice University, Houston, Texas in the field of Materials Science and Engineering. For his post-doctoral studies, he joined in Chemistry Department of Rice University and Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC). He returned to Turkey on 1990. Dr. Tarık Baykara had been in TUBİTAK Marmara Research Center at Gebze for more than 20 years as a research associate, head of Materials Department and later on as the Director of the Materials Institute. He had involved in many research projects sponsored or supported by the state sector and private sector companies, NATO-SFS Programme, UNIDO, Turkish Defense Organizations and various ministeries. Recently, he has been in Doğuş University as a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department and he founded the MIT Lab (Advanced Mechanical Laboratories). He published 8 books, 90 papers in international journals, 4 patents (3 of them is still pending). He has 560 SCI citations (SCI % SCOPUS) and his H-Index is 15. He recently published a book entitled as: “Towards the Nanotechnology Worlds (Turkish), Nobel, 2016”
